If you’ve ever noticed, the
Valkyrie speedometer is at least 5 percent optimistic… when it says you are
rolling along at 60 mph, you are really closer to 57 mph. Some folks say the error gets worse as the
speed increases, but this has not been my experience.
The tachometer, on the other
hand, is much more accurate. So, it
should be possible to relate actual speed, in miles per hour, to the tachometer
reading, and that is exactly what the tables on this page do.
These tables were prepared
assuming a standard Dunlop tire which, according to measurements made by both
Chet (at rattlebars.com) and me, is 79.5 inches in circumference. Avons are a tad less… add two percent for RPM’s,
subtract 2 percent for speed if you are riding on
